Mylene is the little girl that made me an aunt 14 years ago! I still remember the exact moment I found out my sister was pregnant with her. I was beyond excited and immediately went into aunt mode. I couldn't wait to spoil this baby girl.
I'll always be grateful to my sister for sharing her little girl with me. For all the years that I wasn't a mother I truly felt like Mylene was my little girl too. She would spend long weekends with me and we would go shopping and out to eat. We went to the movies and grocery shopping. She'd take bubble baths in my clawfoot bath tub and then sleep in bed with me (I didn't get a good night sleep when she stayed over, she was a tornado in bed 😉 ). We went on road trips and made everlasting memories.
In 14 years I've never ever missed her birthday parties. This year she had a late night pool party and I had to skip it so that Magnolia could get to bed at a decent time. I felt terrible for missing her party and so I made it up to her the next day. I baked her a cake and we had a little pizza party on our back deck. In all the years this is the first year the weather hasn't been like a sauna and the high was only 74 degrees. The weather was perfect and we had Lana Del Ray (by her request, and I would have requested it too) playing throughout the house!
I don't know what she wished for when she blew out those 14 candles, but I hope and pray with all my heart that her dreams come true. She is beautiful, simply beautiful, inside and out. She's got stardust in her veins. Her personality is unique and her soul runs deep. She is the type of person that will show you her soul without hesitation. There is a rawness about her. Some people may think she is too much, too edgy, too bold, too brave with her thoughts, but I hope she never apologizes for who she is. She doesn't fit into a box, nor stay between the lines, she is Mylene, and one of the most beautiful souls I know!
Mylene you shine like a star! Happy 14. We love you forever.
