It's been over two years since we moved into our home. And today, I'm finally sharing our kitchen BEFORE & AFTER photos and project details. My number one goal was to take it from the dark & gloomy kitchen that it was to a bright & airy space. I wanted white on white, with marble + gold + sparkle. On a sunny day our home is bright and full of light, and even on the cloudiest of days our home is still airy and fresh.
This was the kitchen the day we moved in! It's shocking now to see how dark and gross it was before we renovated it. I honestly forgot how bad it really was. Our list of interior renovations for the entire home included:
- Whole house paint, including walls, trim, & doors
- We changed almost all the lighting with the exception of the bathrooms & laundry room, as we intend to remodel those rooms soon
- All new flooring and refinishing of the hardwood floors
- New interior doors & hardware
The kitchen renovation included:
- White enamel paint on all cabinets
- New countertops
- Marble backsplash
- Crystal cabinet knobs
- All new appliances
- Hardwood floor refinishing
- Replaced the sink, faucet, and garbage disposal
- New light fixtures and outlets
At the end of this post you'll find links and product details.
Family is everything to us & having special photographs on our walls is important to me. Below we have Ryan's parents on their wedding day and also a candid photograph of my grandpa at breakfast with an Air Force friend.
A built-in desk in the kitchen is very 1990s and at first I didn't like it. I thought about having it all pulled out, but I ended up having it painted white so I could see how I felt about it once it was fresh & clean. We had glass added to the top of the desk. This area is now what I'll call our "stopping station!" I am pleased now with it's look and function. Ryan uses the cubbies for his wallet, keys, and sunglass. I put important documents and coupons in one slot. When I first get home I'll put my purse on the corner of the desk as I'm unloading the car & getting Magnolia situated. I have all of Magnolia's accessories in the pink wooden crate, as the kitchen is where I'll fix her hair & put on her shoes as we're walking out the door. Her accessory collection of bonnets, headbands, head wraps, barrettes, socks, knee-highs, sweater tights, & shoes is growing & growing fast. She has more shoes than me! Our Young Living Essential Oils also have an important spot in the kitchen as this is where I'll oil us up before the day gets started & also where I'll get our diffuser around the corner going first thing in the morning.
