Dining Room to Playroom Conversion

Today I'm really excited to share with you Magnolia's new playroom! Ryan & I started planning this space months before Christmas. We decided to convert the dining room into a playroom because we can only remember eating in the dining room one time since living in our home for over three years. And the only reason we did that was because our kitchen table had not yet arrived. It was an easy decision to give up the dining space, although I will admit it was something I swore I'd never do. With it being the first space guests will see when entering our home it was important for me to make it stylish & intentional!

For the first few years of her life we had a very minimalist view on toys & we still do in many ways. We saw her imagination growing before our eyes & wanted to give her an area that would help it grow even more. The pink play kitchen, lace teepee, chalkboard + dry erase easel, & the arts & crafts table are the main pieces of the room. The rest of the space is filled with all things magical & whimsical. Pastel colors of the rainbow are sprinkled throughout!

Now the sweetest part of this whole story is the HGTV style reveal we planned for her on Christmas morning. When she went to bed on Christmas Eve this room was bare with the exception of the bookcases I had pre-styled. When she woke up on Christmas morning she found this!!! Her reaction was something we had dreamed about through the entire planning process. We had our camcorder set-up & ready to record her first expressions. What she did was very quiet & she simply walked up to each thing and touched it all so gently. We still had the baby gates installed & Valentine was on the other side anxiously wanting to enter. After Magnolia touched a few things her #1 concern was getting her dog in the room with her & so that is what we did. It was nearly impossible to get Magnolia to leave her new room to see what all Santa had left under the tree for her. After the big reveal & when we realized she didn't want to leave the room, Ryan & I stepped away for a moment to get our morning coffee. I went back & spied on her. She was standing in the middle of the room just looking around. That moment was my very favorite part of Christmas day, it was like she was simply taking it all in & totally shocked!

Ryan was home from Christmas until New Year's & we both enjoyed our morning coffee over in Magnolia's kitchen. Valentine's favorite place is inside the teepee! And Magnolia's favorite thing to do is saute up the wooden ice cubes for us to eat with a cup of tea.

I've linked a lot of the products in this room below (& a few other items we love), but if you have any questions about anything please ask! Also, Ikea is the absolute best place to buy play kitchen stuff. That is where I got her pots & pans, tea cups & saucers, cupcakes & felt play food. As always I try to avoid plastic stuff as much as possible.

I hope your 2019 is off to the most amazing beginning.
xo
