Father's Day 2021

I'm sure some of you reading this remember the summer of 2016 when we had a gender reveal party and found out our baby was a BOY! And for months we planned our life with little Alfred (to be named after my grandpa). Ryan dreamed about all the fishing they'd do & all the hot summers they'd spend watching the Royals play at Kauffman Stadium. Meanwhile I googled "raising a son" every single day because I felt very clueless to all things "little boy." Like any new dad to-be he was ecstatic to have a son. And then one August morning we sat in a cold dark sonogram room and the nurse repeatedly referred to our baby as a girl & all of his dreams of having a son were squashed in an instant when we were told it was a "typo" mistake. I'll never forget the drive home when he literally went down a list of all the things he dreamed of doing with Alfred that would no longer happen. By the time dinner rolled around that day he was in a new state of mind & was equally if not more excited about having a daughter.

And it was Magnolia all along. Our sweet girl sent from Heaven above. She came into our world and Ryan was blessed with a mini-me! She could not be an ounce more girly-girl and the last thing on this girl's mind is "gross" fishing or attending a melting hot Royals game. She hates the heat, she is terrified of bugs, she gets grossed out very easily, she cannot handle being dirty, and the list goes on & on. And in 2021 it's probably not politically correct for me to emphasize her extreme feminine personality, but I don't care, I'm saying it --- she is ALL GIRL!

Her daddy could not be a better girl dad. He is sensitive, he is kind, he is respectful and he adores her. He treats her like a princess. They have tea parties & dance parties. He has listened to more Taylor Swift than he ever dreamed possible, and attended more before bed dance performances than all the concerts of his younger years. She tells him his business and he takes it. He supports all of her dreams whatever they maybe, whether it's an Elsa birthday party, a cotton candy pink poodle, Mermaid photos in the sand or dance classes all summer long, whatever makes her happy makes him happy. He's built dollhouses with pink front doors, he can build a balloon arch like a professional, and he can repair a broken mermaid before tears are even shed.

God knew what he was doing when he sent us Magnolia. Ryan is the dad that little girls dream about, and I know this to be true because my grandpa "my dad figure" adored me the way he adores her. After he passed away I dreamed of having a dad like Ryan. I watch them together and in many ways it heals my own heart to see a little girl & daddy love the way they do. They both light up when they talk to one another. When he gets home from travel she runs to the door screaming with happiness to be back in his arms. Magnolia is growing up with his love & is learning all about the ways a man should love & respect her.

We are going into Father's Day weekend and I just have to say how blessed Magnolia & I are to have this man love us. When I say he has a kind heart, oh my goodness --- THE KINDEST! I prayed for him & I thank God for him & our life every single day. He makes me a better person. Forever grateful.
