Our Kitchen Counters

Today I'm going to clean and clean and clean. I'm going to turn on Pandora and open the windows to let in the fresh  - unusually warm - February breeze blow inside. We are hoping to move upstairs from the basement this weekend! I cannot tell you how much we are looking forward to sleeping in our new master bedroom and not a cold dark basement.

Yesterday our new Allen and Roth Solid Surface White counters were installed and they look amazing! The transformation from the dark cabinets to this bright white kitchen is unreal. We had originally wanted marble counters, then we considered the butcher block, then we went back to the marble idea, and then we were talked out of marble due to the scratch and stain sensitivity that most marble lovers are aware of. We plan to fill this home with babies, so we have to consider the wear and tear. Marble was just too risky. I want to cook with our children and not worry about damaging the counters. When we were planning on marble counters we were going to do white subway tile, then I had this great idea to flip flop the look. How about we do solid white counters and marble backsplash? This way we still get the look we are going for without the risks of damage. And this change in plans was a whole lot better on the budget. Solid surface counters are a fraction of the cost of marble!

This is our kitchen with counters. We have backsplash, paint touch-ups, plumbing, and appliance installation left on the to-do list, but WE ARE SO CLOSE to having a kitchen again. Ryan and I like to eat out, it's fun, but we've been eating out for over a month now and it's getting really old. The people at Jimmy John's know us and our story! That's bad.

We went with a single bowl stainless steel sink and we have this Delta Faucet to install. It's the prettiest faucet I ever did see!

The marble subway tile will look something like this. We haven't picked the grout color yet, I'm still debating between white and gray.

Our white retro GE Artistry appliances are waiting for us at Lowe's.

And just in case you missed the BEFORE photos of the dark kitchen, here you go!

Thank you for following along with #thesmithspinkhouse renovation adventure! All the pretty stuff starts soon as we move in and decorate!

Wishing you and yours a beautiful Thursday and stay tuned for more progress photos on Instagram @wendycorreen!
